Seeing It Through

My study Bible and psalm writing notebook

I finished up a project today. It’s a project that I started working on several years ago. You can read more about it in this article where I share about the “Spiritual Practice of Plagiarism”. The heart of this project, though, is to write out the psalms.

It has not always been a consistent journey for me, but in the middle of December 2022, I decided to pick it back up. Every day, Monday through Friday, I was working on writing out the psalms.

This project has covered a lot of time and a lot of ground. I started it back in 2016. Since then, we’ve added another child to the family, we’ve move to a new church in a new town. A LOT of life changes have taken place, and I let the practice slide for a long time. I’ve even come to find out about some highly questionable practices in the translation of the ESV, and switch to the NRSV as my primary study translation.

But, today, finally, it is complete. Truthfully, if I was keeping to my (newest) schedule, I would have finished it tomorrow. But once I finished today, and only had 2 psalms left, I just went ahead and wrapped it up.

Sometimes in life, we come up with big projects to do, and we end up jumping in full force until the momentum wears out. That’s how I felt about this one. But perseverance goes a long way in seeing something through.

This hasn’t been a perfect practice — I guess few really are. But it has been good. Now, to challenge myself with the next major project. We’ll see how it goes from here.
